Eats Everything: a DJ set from a hot air balloon
Batteries, inverters, amplifiers, CDJs and Danley speakers packed into a balloon basket so a DJ set could be heard on the streets of Bath from 500ft up.
Put a sound system in a hot air balloon basket that is loud enough to be heard at street level, with no mains power on board and strict weight limits.
When DJ Eats Everything planned a set in a hot air balloon to celebrate a new single, Loud Hire made sure the music could be heard from the sky. We supplied the speakers and the power, turning a flight from Bath to Bristol into a sky-high concert. The project was covered by the BBC.
The challenge
Filling the streets of Bath with sound from a basket 500ft in the air is not a normal brief. With strict weight limits and no power on board, we had to fit batteries, inverters, amplifiers, CDJs and speakers into the basket while leaving room for the pilot, co-pilot and the DJ.
What we delivered
The speaker system of choice was our Danley Sound Labs SM80 loudspeakers: lightweight and long-throw, the right combination for the job, paired with a Danley DNA amplifier. The sound was crystal clear at street level, and plenty of people on the ground were left wondering how such a compact system, flying at 500ft, could make so much noise with no distortion.
"I've played in many ridiculous places over the years, but I think I may just have outdone myself."
