Project SoundPower

Battery-powered PA for a carbon action rally on College Green

A diesel generator was out of the question at a rally about carbon emissions, so we built a battery supply and ran an efficient horn PA for a crowd of 1,000 in central Bristol.

The brief

Deploy a PA loud enough for a crowd of more than 1,000 for three hours with no diesel generator on site.

We were contacted to deploy a suitably loud PA system on College Green in Bristol for a carbon action rally. With the event focused on carbon emissions, a diesel generator running in the background was not appropriate, so we needed a battery-powered system capable of serving a crowd of more than 1,000 people for three hours.

What we delivered

Our design team built a battery source that could supply up to 1,000W of power continuously for up to five hours. That let us take advantage of the efficiency of our Linea Research amplifiers, switched into 100V line mode to drive horn loudspeakers, which remain the most cost-effective way of covering large crowds with clear speech.
