Sound, lighting and effects for a 2,000-capacity boxing night
A truss-mounted PA over the ring, a full lighting rig with moving lights and haze, and CO2 jets on every corner, designed for 2,000 spectators watching from 360 degrees.
Design a full sound and lighting system for a large-scale boxing event with 2,000 spectators viewing the ring from all sides, on a limited power supply and a fixed budget.
Loud Hire was asked to design a full PA, sound and lighting system for a large-scale boxing event where 2,000 people watched from 360 degrees around the ring.
Lighting design
The rig included plenty of white light from fresnels for the ring, with red and blue tinted industrial-style lights for ambient light around the audience. Moving lights on the main rig above the ring added effect as the fighters entered and during show moments, and stayed static during the fights so as not to distract. A light haze in the room made the beams visible in the air.
PA system
We always specify sound systems around 30% bigger than they need to be, for headroom, clarity and depth. Here we rigged eight yoke-mounted PA speakers on the truss structure above the ring and placed eight dual 18-inch subwoofers at floor level on either side. The total system power exceeded 20,000 watts.
Effects and power
CO2 jets mounted on each corner of the ring fired at the start, end and entrance of each fight. With limited power available for both the PA and the lighting, digital amplification and LED fixtures kept the whole event within the supply and on budget.
