Three days of folk, shanty bands and DJs on a 10m x 6m outdoor stage at Gloucester Docks, with the PA flown and angled to keep sound off homes just 60m away.
Deliver a full production package for the 2024 festival's main stage, bigger than any previous year, while meeting strict off-site noise limits in a historic dockside setting.
Gloucester Tall Ships Festival is a biennial event held at the historic Gloucester Docks. For 2024 the organisers wanted to go bigger than ever before: a three-day programme packed with professional folk and shanty bands, with a DJ filling the gaps between sets.
The challenge
The site sits right in the city. The nearest residence was a balcony above the shops only 60m from the stage, and the festival had strict off-site noise restrictions to meet.
What we delivered
Alongside our sister company Big Stage Hire we provided a full production package on a 10m x 6m outdoor stage.
At front of house we used our Danley J7 loudspeaker system with BC415 subwoofers, mixed on an Allen & Heath SQ6, with an SQ7 handling monitors. Martin Audio LE100 wedges kept the artists happy all day.
To meet the noise restrictions we flew the speakers at height and angled them down so the sound energy was absorbed by the crowd rather than carrying over the site to nearby homes.
