• Santas Float

    The North Pole

Project Goals

Every year a group of volunteers club together to spread festive cheer over the streets of Bristol and raise money for the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This is the second year we have had the pleasure of donating our services for this amazing cause.

The key to raising money is making sure that people are aware that the float is in town and for us that meant it needed to be loud! We placed speakers on the forward position of the tractor (from the front linkage). This allowed the sound to be heard up the street and for the characters and dancers leading the way.

As well as this we also placed speakers down the side of the float for the public as we passed by.

“You can actually feel the sound Mummy” – Joseph aged 7 from Bristol

“What a team! Amazing work!” – Tom Grey, Loud Hire Director

Key challenge

Getting the bass heard infront of the float had previously been an issue for the float. With no space at the front of the tractor for subwoofers and no space on the trailer the only position was under the trailer.

We mounted x2 18 inch subs at the rear of the trailer and x2 at the front of the float (All pointing straight forward). From this we were able to use DSP to time delay and couple the front subs to the rear subs. This meant the bass coverage was extended out the front of the float.

Every year it is heartwarming to bring joy to so many family’s across Bristol as well as raising over £10,000 per year for an amazing cause.
